My Mom Won't Eat or Drink

Biggest Challenge:

My Mom Won’t Eat Or Drink

--Nora

Response from DM: When your parent is not eating or drinking that can be very serious. Her primary doctor needs to be made aware of the complete circumstances of this behavior and attitude. But aside from medical and nutritional intervention immediately, you may consider that there may be an emotional component to this food and beverage refusal. Is she competent to make this decision for herself or is she sad or depressed? You may want to seek out professional therapy for her to discuss the issue or issues that may be bothering her. Or sometimes a spiritual person that she has some connection with may bring her some level of comfort. But no matter what, medical attention is needed before she becomes dehydrated or too weak to function.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marion
