Supporting A Gay Lifestyle
My mother just died and my father has come out of the closet and announced he is gay. My siblings and I are having trouble accepting this. Any thoughts on how to help us deal with this and be supportive of his new lifestyle?

I am sorry for the loss of your mother. Your father is very brave to be so forthright by stating that he’s gay. Your father is still your father and you are still his children. Gay or straight, people are people. We all have feelings, needs, wants, and desires. Listen to your father and find out what he wants for himself and his family. Be honest with him about your feelings. Keep the dialogue open, listen with your heart not just your ears. Find mutual ground so that everyone in the family can be comfortable, especially your father at this time in his life.
