Moving Mom to Assisted Living
My mom will be moving to an assisted living home she does not want to go but do to poor health she has no choice. How can we smooth this transition over?
Georgia in Delaware, 66
The transition from home to any institutional setting, no matter how wonderful the place is, can be very difficult even if your mother knows it’s in her best interest to make the change. She might like not having to make her own meals, or love the variety of activities and recreation. This new setting often offers an opportunity to make friends and rekindle some old activities such as cards and other games. Give your mother time to adjust, and make sure that the activities director at the home is aware of what your mother likes to do.
