Oversized Clothing for Seniors
Dear Doctor Marion,
I have such a hard time dressing my wife. She is older than me and is getting less flexible. How can I help her and make us both feel more comfortable and make our lives easier?

As a person ages, their lifestyle becomes more sedentary even if they haven’t gained weight. It just gets harder to move, and many elderly have joint problems. This could be true of your wife. I often recommend buying clothes that are one size larger than usual so it‘s easier for an older person to wear and move around.
More room will give her more comfort and greater independence on a daily basis, especially if any clothing needs to be pulled overhead. This is also vital for any elder loved one who suffers from Parkinson’s disease or joint ailments. While it may not be fashion-forward, it’s much easier to maneuver in an oversized garment.
