Can iPhone you? Yes, you can! Especially if you're one of the millions who has bought an iPhone since its launch in Oxford Street in 2007. Jokes aside, Apple has recently announced there are now over 100,000 'apps' available to download.
That's a lot of apps.
Most of these apps are utterly useless but amusing in their own way. Our favourite futile app is the iBubblewrap which if you enjoying squeezing bubble wrap is the app for you!
Still, hidden amongst the dross of apps like the Zit Picker, iFart and iSteam, there are some real gems for caregivers looking after close friends and family.
These apps will allow you to keep track of almost any kind of care-related data, whether it is setting the time for administering medicines or a reminder to set bathing aids for disabled patients. Some of these apps will even allow you to link up with other care-givers to discuss complicated problems you may be facing.
Below we list the top 5 apps that make the work of UK caregivers just that little bit easier.
#1. CareConnector (from Johnson and Johnson, free)
This free-for-download app helps caregivers track the medical information of multiple patients in a single place. Users can also join an online message board through the app itself and chat with their peers about problems that they face in their line of work. One for professionals only!
#2. Elder 411 (from Presto and Marion Somers, Ph.D, costs $1.99)
This app is designed to act as a resource for accessing information about all sorts of issues that caregivers face. Users can access information such as how to keep the home safe, manage financial and legal formalities, consider alternative options for housing if necessary, etc. A stunning resource developed by a lady with 35 years care-giving experience.
#3. iPills (from iGoApps, Free)
This great little app acts as a reminder, helping the user remember what pills to take, and maintains a record of whether the user has taken them on time. A classic app with some great user reviews.
#4. Polka (from Polka, costs $0.99)
This nifty app tracks the personal health conditions of not only the user, but also his/her loved ones. It monitors diet, blood pressure, fitness regimens, and the progress of any health conditions related to these factors. Excellent.
#5. My Emergency Info (from Polka, costs $0.99)
This app, also built by the creators of Polka, helps users store their health related information and contact details securely in their iPhones. In times of emergency, the user is able to access the stored information quickly and securely. This app could literally save lives.
These 5 great apps are geared towards making the lives of caregivers a bit easier. Yes, there are many similar apps out there, but these 5 certainly seem to have better features than most. More importantly, if they save just one single life, their development will have been worth it.
And remember, if you don't have an iPhone, you can buy one through Orange, Vodafone and Tesco Mobile as well as O2.
