Session at National "Aging in America" Conference Revealed Findings
From Two Cross-Country Tours and Trip to the Iowa Caucuses
Washington, DC – March 31, 2008 – Leading elder care expert and author Doctor Marion® (www.doctormarion.com) presented “From Grassroots to Government: Facing the Elder Care Tsunami” at Aging in America, the 2008 Conference of the National Council on Aging and the American Society on Aging. The session revealed findings from Doctor Marion’s recent tours across the US to understand the current challenges of aging and caregiving on a national scope. Visiting 40 cities in 90 days, Doctor Marion met with seniors, caregivers, politicians, community leaders, and health care professionals to discuss the current elder care crisis. She also went to the Iowa caucuses to urge the Presidential candidates to make elder care a national priority.
Doctor Marion’s session spotlighted the concerns of seniors and caregivers nationwide, and the resources available to them at every level – from grassroots to government. She offered a candid look at models of success and failure, and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. According to Doctor Marion, an “elder care tsunami” is threatening to overwhelm the baby boomers, our largest demographic, who are struggling to balance caring for older parents and loved ones alongside their own health and aging issues. Key areas of concern include poor communication between government agencies and limited access to community resources by seniors and caregivers.
Doctor Marion is available to the media as an expert resource for a range of elder care and aging topics. For more information, or a copy of the presentation from last week’s conference, please contact Jesson Burnam at 609-279-0050 x104 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
