Long-term Care Expert Stops in Fort Wayne
Study shows most people will need long term care
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) An expert on long-term care visited Emeritus Assisted Living and Memory Care in Fort Wayne Wednesday to talk about how people should prepare for their future.
Dr. Marion Somers is an author and spokesperson for a campaign called 3in4 Need More. It gets its name because three out of every four people will need extra resources for long-term care as they age.
"The problem is so enormous, and most people think that Medicare or their health insurance is going to cover long term care and it's not. So when people don't understand this, and then when an incident happens, they're shocked and they're unprepared," explained Dr. Somers.
The goal of the 3in4 Association is to help raise awareness so that older Americans are more prepared in case they need long-term care. It also works to educate people about private programs and federal entitlement options that are available.
