National Senior Talent Competition Comes To Portland May 11th
The Oregon Herald
PORTLAND, Oregon - A nationwide senior talent competition and long-term care awareness tour are coming to Portland’s Emeritus Sellwood Landing on May 11th at 1 p.m. Non-profit organization 3in4 Association and its spokesperson, elder care expert and author Dr. Marion Somers, Ph.D., recently partnered with Emeritus, a national provider of senior living services, to launch the "Bring Your Talent" contest, a search to find America’s most talented seniors and caregivers. The winner will receive one free year of rent at any Emeritus community, with 11 runners-up each receiving one free week. The contest is part of the national 3in4 Need More campaign, an educational initiative to raise awareness about the need for Americans to better prepare for their long-term health care needs.
According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, nearly 70% of Americans over the age of 65 will need some form of long-term care. Yet most are unprepared for its financial and emotional impact. Dr. Marion is driving across the U.S. in the 3in4 Need More bus – a converted Greyhound – to wake up Americans to the realities of long-term care and how they can better prepare for it. She’ll be at Emeritus Sellwood Landing to share her tips and advice for planning ahead – and to emcee an open call for auditions, inviting the most talented seniors in Portland to showcase their abilities for a chance to win. Local legend Voodoo Doughnuts is even baking a giant "granny" donut to welcome the 3in4 Need More campaign to town. Dr. Marion will bring the big donut creation and 200 of their classic donuts to the discussion and contest auditions.
Dr. Marion’s tips on planning for long-term care are simple. She’s sending out a "S.O.S.":
• S - SITUATION. It’s a fact: we're getting older and living longer than ever before. If you don't need long-term care, your parent, spouse, or other loved one might.
• O - OPTIONS. Long-term care takes on many forms, all of which can cost thousands of dollars each month. Consider your options now so you won't be shocked later. Check the calculator at 3in4NeedMore.com to find long-term care costs in every state.
• S - SOLUTIONS. Traditional insurance and Medicare will not cover most long-term care costs. Research alternatives - like financial planning, government support, family support, long-term care insurance, reverse mortgages, and more.
Dr. Marion’s talk will begin at 1p.m. at Emeritus Sellwood Landing, 8517 SE 17th Avenue in Portland. The talent auditions will immediately follow. Nathan Sanow, Manager of Business Development for Portland's own MasterCare Solutions (the leading Long Term Care insurance agency in Oregon) will also be present. More information about the contest and tour is available online at www.3in4NeedMore.com and www.FreeRentGiveaway.com.
