If you are an iPhone or iTouch user, then you might be interested in a new app made for caregivers. Dr Marion Somers (www.doctormarion.com) has teamed up with Presto Services, Inc. (www.presto.com) to develop two apps that focus on senior care: Elder411 and Elder911. The apps are the first of their kind to offer convenient mobile access to a wealth of caregiving insights, checklists, and support – from how to deal with financial and housing concerns, to what to do in an emergency, and more.

Elder411 contains more than 500 pieces of practical advice on various subjects that may be needed in an on-the-spot situation. This app provides a convenient resource for not only helping seniors, but also helping their loved ones find answers to a myriad of questions that crop up in the day to day care of an aging family member. Dr. Marion has included advice regarding keeping the home safe, dealing with our financial and legal needs, discussing difficult topics, considering housing options, and much more.

Whereas, Elder911 does as its moniker suggests and provides information regarding emergency care. Topics include what to ask the doctor, what to do at the hospital, and how to plan for discharge and beyond.

Both elder care iPhone apps feature:

  • Expert advice formatted in a practical manner
  • Content that can be emailed to yourself and others
  • Ability to add personal notes to content
  • Fully embedded video and audio – no network connection required
  • Fully searchable content (Elder 411)
  • Interactive checklists (Elder 911)

Dr. Marion Somers has made it her mission to provide educational resources to those who care for our aging population. The advent of these apps provides a new avenue to disseminate information when and where it is needed. “So many are overwhelmed with the challenges of caring for someone older, while others are hit with a crisis overnight. Both are desperate for resources and support, and it has been my mission to provide that to as many people as I can reach,” said Dr. Marion.
